Zurich’s 60 Years in Hong Kong “Think Good, Talk Good” Campaign | Commits to Promoting Positive Psychology in the Community

  • Partnership with social enterprise StoryTaler to promote mental health
  • Launch of the “Think Good, Talk Good” telephone installation at The Mills
  • Embrace positive psychology with the local community and discover beautiful moments in life together

Zurich Insurance (Hong Kong) ("Zurich Hong Kong") has deep roots in the city that go back 60 years, with a proud track record of corporate responsibility and philanthropic work that has served the local community over the years. As part of its 60th anniversary celebration, Zurich Hong Kong joins hands with StoryTaler, a social enterprise co-founded by a psychology professor and a clinical psychologist, on the “Think Good, Talk Good” Campaign to shine light on mental health, celebrate experiences and educate on the power of compassion. The Campaign will take positive psychology into the local community and bring about meaningful social change by connecting with people and discovering beautiful moments in life together.

The Zurich Insurance Group originates from Switzerland – one of the happiest places in the world. As an extension, Zurich Hong Kong also understands the importance of mental fulfillment, especially as the city continues to cope with the economic and emotional impact of COVID-19. Under social distancing measures, the lack of interaction with loved ones has meant a spike in stress. According to a research1, the average mental health score of Hong Kong people hit a record low last year, with nearly 40% of the participants reported they had endured traumatic experiences, over half (58.9%) failed the mental health index, while 27.1% were within an acceptable range, and only 14.1%  were in a good mental state. The Campaign is an innovative way for Zurich Hong Kong to address the mental health needs of society, by encouraging healthy communication and relationships, and reinforce the importance of embracing life even in adversity.

Eric Hui, Chief Executive Officer of Zurich Insurance (Hong Kong), said, “Over the past 60 years, Zurich Hong Kong has remained determined in its responsibilities as a corporate citizen. We have been proud to walk alongside society through the many ups and downs, and remained committed in our responsibilities to better the wider Hong Kong community. The support from our customers, business partners, employees and the public in the last six decades is the key to our success as we reach this milestone. With the ‘Think Good, Talk Good’ Campaign, we will deepen the impact of our community work by connecting individuals and instilling optimism while reaffirming our brand purpose of ‘Creating a brighter future together’. Hong Kong people are known to lead busy lives and have little time for heart-to-heart talks. Through the Campaign, we hope to create a community space where healthy and kind conversations flow, and bring positive psychology to a wider audience. We will continue to be a catalyst for positive change in the community and its people, and be the most trusted insurance partner in Hong Kong.”

Professor Winnie Mak of The Chinese University of Hong Kong’s Psychology Department and Co-founder of StoryTaler, said, “StoryTaler’s mission is to promote mental health and to reduce the stigma related to mental illnesses in the community through storytelling. We are delighted that Zurich Hong Kong shares the same vision, and reached out to us and organized the installation to raise awareness on mental health.”

The “Think Good, Talk Good” telephone installation will be opened to the public for two weeks from 16 July to 1 August at 1/F, Mill 4 of The Mills in Tsuen Wan. People who are blind are also welcomed, and sign language interpretation services for Deaf people / people who are hard of hearing will be provided in designated timeslots to cater to an inclusive audience. Interested passersby can join by sharing their happy stories and grateful experiences inside a private space. Those listening will be Zurich Hong Kong volunteers and student volunteers who have undergone a positive psychology workshop training, and are equipped to interact with the participants on their experiences and together, embrace the beautiful moments shared. Participants will be given a tailored thank you card as a token of appreciation. And the eye-catching telephone booth is designed for privacy, while the outside is fitted with an instagrammable leisure area.

To celebrate its 60th anniversary, Zurich Hong Kong is also launching a series of promotions2. From end-July to 30 September, all customers can enjoy six months of free Passenger Prime Protection upon successful registration. And 10% off premium discount and up to 1-year free COVID-19 Vaccine Cover and Passenger Prime Protection for customers who successfully enrolled in the HomeChoice Insurance Plan.
