Pok Oi Hospital receives HKD1.1 million charitable donation from Z Zurich Foundation | Establishment of #MoveForward COVID-19 Support Program to overcome pandemic with optimism

Hong Kong, June 1, 2020 – Zurich Insurance (Hong Kong) (“Zurich”) is embracing social responsibilities amid the pandemic. We have successfully pledged a HKD1.1 million charitable donation via Z Zurich Foundation to Pok Oi Hospital for the establishment of the #MoveForward COVID-19 Support Program. The Program aims to provide support to children and elderly in grassroot families whom have been especially affected in this challenging period. We hope to bring hope and positivity to the underprivileged and together, overcome the pandemic with optimism.

The initial phase of the project addresses the protection and the educational needs of the targeted community. The distribution of 3,000 “Cheer-up aid packs”, with virus-preventive staples, health supplies and tailored items, including toys or sports equipment, are catered to support the recipient’s physical and mental health. In a later phase, we will invite professionals in multiple fields to lead a series of health and leisure activities with the aim to provide emotional relief, alleviating the anxiety and stress brought on by COVID-19. The #MoveForward COVID-19 Support Program will connect the community by launching services across eleven children and family services centres and ten day care centres for the elderly under Pok Oi Hospital, with an expected 5,000 beneficienaries.

As a token of appreciation in recognizing Zurich’s commitment as a responsible corporate citizen, Pok-Oi Hospital held a kick-off ceremony to officiate the commencement of the Program. Mrs. Kan Chan Kit Har, Josephine, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Pok Oi Hospital, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Zurich, and the Z Zurich Foundation, for the devotion and support towards the vulnerable via the Program, supporting their physical and mental needs and restoring their positivity and confidence amid the crisis.

Mrs. Kan Chan Kit Har, Josephine, said, “COVID-19 has severely disrupted the society in many aspects and grassroots families are the first to bear the brunt. It is critical for stakeholders in the society to unite and support those in need. We look forward to donors continuing their generosity towards Pok Oi Hospital in order to provide sustaining support to the underprivileged.”

Mr. Eric Hui, Chief Executive Officer of Zurich Insurance (Hong Kong), stated, “Despite the gradual ease of the health crisis in recent months, there are ongoing challenges facing Hong Kong people. Especially for grassroot families, the mental impact is more severe than that for ordinary individuals. Zurich has long been committed and dedicated to community service, and we believe physical and mental health are imperative to community development. Hence after the earlier donation to a youth-targeted social welfare organization, we have pledged funding through Z Zurich Foundation to Pok Oi Hospital, to deliver crucial support to the community in need. In addition to our aid packs, we hope to encourage the mental wellness of the vulnerable through positive activities and services to uplift and energize, with the ultimate goal to overcome the pandemic with optimism.”
