FAQs

Application

  • Do I need to buy a home insurance for the property if my tenant has already bought it?

Liability owed by landlords and householders can differ, as such, it is recommended that both the landlord and the householder should buy a home insurance plan respectively to maximize protection. For instance, if a passerby is injured by a falling window frame (or household items), the landlord may need to share responsibility to pay for the treatment cost of the injured.

What items are classified as home contents?
Examples of home contents are furniture, fixtures, fittings, household goods, laptop computers, etc. which belong to you and/or a member of the household with exclusions. Please refer to Part I – Definitions of the policy wording for details of the definition and the exclusion of home contents.
  • What is the difference between home contents and home structure?

Home contents refer to furniture, fixtures, household goods, personal effects, desktop computers, laptop computers, valuables, interior decorations, etc. which belong to you and/or a member of your household. Home structure, on the other hand, refers to walls, floors, pipes, etc. For detailed definitions, please refer to the policy wording.

Under HomeChoice’s basic coverage, it provides protection on home contents. For all-rounded home protection, you are recommended to add the building optional coverage.

  • Under what circumstances that I might be accountable for legal liability?

As the landlord of a property, you are accountable for certain liabilities. For example, if a leak originating from your property affects the household downstairs, you may be expected to cover the damages incurred by the leakage, even though you are not the resident living there. Under such circumstances, our HomeChoice (Landlord Insurance) will provide you with peace of mind.
